Hybrid water heat pump

Heat pump water heaters, also known as hybrid water heaters, use heat pump technology to transfer heat from the surrounding air to water in the tank. They use as little as one-third of the energy consumed by standard electric storage water heaters, while delivering the same supply of reliable hot water.

Heat pump water heaters must be installed according to the manufacturer’s specifications and be listed on the BPA HPWH Qualified Products List (PDF)

  • Only homes replacing an existing electric standard tank are eligible. For a limited time, replacing natural gas or propane water heaters to a heat pump water heater also qualify.
  • Homeowners may hire a professional or self-install to qualify for PenLight incentive.
  • We are unable to offer incentives for standard electric storage-type, tankless demand-type, or new construction installations.
  • Incentive amount not to exceed total project costs.
  • Income qualified heat pump water heater incentive requires pre-approval.
