This chart is based on a comparison between a 24 mpg gasoline-powered car and the average kilowatt-hour per mile of the top five selling electric vehicles in 2015 in the U.S. (Source: U.S. Department of Energy). The gasoline price is based on an approximate local average gasoline price of $3.50 per gallon and an annual driving estimate of 15,000 miles. The electricity rate is based on Peninsula Light’s residential rate of $0.078/kWh.
