Peninsula Light Co. is proud to announce the successful execution of its next long-term power supply contract with the Bonneville Power Administration. It’s a landmark agreement that ensures reliable, affordable, and clean energy for PenLight members well into the future.

Under this new contract, power deliveries will begin in October 2028 and continue through September 2044, providing PenLight and its members with an at-cost, federally sourced power supply from the Federal Columbia River Power System.

This achievement represents the culmination of many years of collaboration, negotiation, and public process among BPA and consumer-owned utilities across the region. PenLight’s Power Resources staff played a key role throughout the development and review of the contract, ensuring our members’ interests were strongly represented every step of the way.

“I cannot overstate how valuable it is for our members, both past and future, to have preference rights to affordable, reliable, and clean energy provided through the Federal Columbia River Power System,” PenLight CEO Jafar Taghavi said. “This contract is a testament to our continued partnership with BPA and to the strength of our cooperative’s commitment to dependable, sustainable power.”

While the Pacific Northwest continues to face evolving energy challenges, this new contract underscores the importance of protecting the FCRPS and maintaining strong regional partnerships that serve the long-term interests of our members. 22901

PenLight’s relationship with BPA spans 5 decades, making this new contract especially significant. In fact, the November Board Meeting included a ceremonial contract-signing with BPA representatives, marking both PenLight’s 100-year anniversary as an electric cooperative and our 50-year milestone as a BPA customer.

This dual celebration honored not only our century of service to the Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula communities, but also our shared legacy of collaboration with BPA in advancing clean, reliable public power across the Northwest.

The contract-signing ceremony honored the shared commitment of both organizations to deliver clean, reliable, and affordable public power across the Pacific Northwest. It’s a fitting tribute to a century of community-driven energy service and a strong foundation for the decades ahead.
