Innovation in the Classroom

Supported by Peninsula Schools Education Foundation

6 studentsWe all know great public schools require collaborative support by residents, parents, business and community leaders through a diverse array of organizations.

Established in 1995, the Peninsula Schools Education Foundation is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) organization that supports high quality education for each student in the Peninsula School District. Since its beginning, PSEF has awarded more than 500 teacher grants with a value of more than a half-million dollars. Wow!

On Thursday, September 28, PSEF will hold its annual fundraiser, which is also its primary funding vehicle for teacher grants. Peninsula Light Co. is a major sponsor of this event, which last year awarded more than $20,000 to Peninsula School District teachers.

The organization hosts a breakfast, at 7 a.m., and a lunch at noon, both hosted at Canterwood Golf and Country Club. The organization hopes that by offering two seatings for its annual fundraiser, there are more opportunities for people who want to support local education efforts.

Teachers have until Tuesday, October 31, to submit a proposal online. Grants are awarded in November. As part of the process, teachers issue reports when their proposals are complete. In the past, PSEF grant funding bought cameras, computers, and supplies such as biology field guides, binoculars and chemistry probes.
