FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Peninsula Light Board Reinstates Jim Smalley and Appoints Debbie Wittmers to Board of Directors, filling 2 vacant positions

Gig Harbor, Wash. — Peninsula Light Company (PenLight) announced two Board of Directors actions taken at its June 11, 2026 meeting: the reinstatement of Director Jim Smalley and the appointment of Deborah “Debbie” Wittmers to fill a vacant Board seat.

The Board voted unanimously to reinstate Jim Smalley following his resignation last year. Smalley had stepped down from the Board at the request of his employer after a lawsuit was filed against Peninsula Light’s CEO. With that lawsuit now withdrawn, Smalley is able to return to Board service and resume his elected position.

Separately, the Board voted unanimously to appoint Deborah “Debbie” Wittmers to fill a vacant seat on the Board of Directors. Wittmers received the next highest number of votes among unelected candidates in the 2026 Board of Directors election, the results of which were announced at PenLight’s Annual Meeting on May 4, 2026.

“Both of these actions reflect the Board’s commitment to ensuring full and effective representation for our members,” said Board President Deb Ross. “We are pleased to welcome Debbie Wittmers to the Board and equally pleased to see Jim Smalley return to service.”

These filled positions will both serve in accordance with PenLight’s bylaws governing Board appointments and elections.

Peninsula Light Company is a member-owned electric cooperative serving more than 35,000 members throughout Gig Harbor, the Key Peninsula, and surrounding areas. PenLight is committed to providing safe, reliable, and affordable electric service while supporting the communities it serves.
