A Season of Change & Preparation

March is a month of transition. Longer days, milder weather, and the first signs of spring give many of us a chance to reset after winter. It’s also an important time of year for electric utilities like PenLight, as we prepare for seasonal shifts and keep an eye on broader trends shaping the energy industry.

As temperatures begin to rise, energy use typically eases after the winter heating season. This gives utilities a window to inspect equipment, plan maintenance, and prepare the electric system for the higher demands that come with summer. You may see PenLight crews out in the community trimming trees, inspecting lines, or upgrading equipment, work that helps reduce outages and improve reliability year-round. 36750

Across the industry, electric utilities are also navigating a changing energy landscape. Load growth in electric vehicle charging, increased use of emerging technologies, and interest from large energy users all mean that electricity demand is evolving. At the same time, utilities are planning for more extreme weather, investing in grid resilience, and finding new ways to balance reliability with affordability.

For PenLight, that planning always starts with our members. As a member-owned cooperative, our focus is on making thoughtful, long-term decisions that support reliable service while keeping costs in check. Whether it’s investing in infrastructure, maintaining strong power supply resources or planning for future growth, every decision is guided by what’s best for the communities we serve. 34519

March is also a reminder that spring projects are just around the corner. If you’re planning outdoor work, remember to look up for overhead power lines, and call 811 before you dig. A little preparation now helps keep everyone safe as the busy season begins.

As we move into spring, PenLight remains committed to clear communication, careful planning, and reliable service–today and into the future. Thank you for being an engaged member of your local electric cooperative.
