This year marks an extraordinary milestone for Peninsula Light Co.: 100 years of powering our community. It’s an opportunity to celebrate not only our longevity, but the people, values, and partnerships that have guided us for a century.
PenLight was founded in 1925 by a group of local citizens with a bold idea to bring power to a rural community and improve the lives of their neighbors. Today, we continue to operate with that same spirit of local ownership and community commitment. We’ve grown with the region, adapted to changing technologies, and consistently delivered safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to our members.
I’ve had the privilege of serving as CEO for nearly 2 decades—18 of these 100 years—and it’s been an honor to be part of such a dedicated team and community. During that time, I’ve seen firsthand the strength of our cooperative model and the incredible work our employees and board members do to serve our members every day. 43242
While you’ll find more details about our centennial celebration and the honors we’ve received throughout this newsletter, I want to take this moment to simply say thank you to our members, our team, and our partners. You are the reason PenLight is what it is today. 44065
As we enter our second century, our focus remains clear: strengthening our infrastructure, investing in clean and reliable energy solutions, and continuing to be a cooperative that puts people first. The work ahead will require innovation, adaptability, and collaboration, but those are qualities we’ve built over the last 100 years.
Here’s to the future—and to the power of community.
Sincerely,
Jafar Taghavi, CEO of Peninsula Light Co.
